Women in prison in Cambodia face tremendous discrimination. Many are ostracized from their families for the crimes they have committed and experience stigma within their communities after they are released.

Women in prison are often from impoverished backgrounds and lack education and technical skills to faciliate reintegration. Many also have the responsibility of caring for their families and children even while they are in prison.

Hagar is partnering with Prison Fellowship in Cambodia to address the needs of women in Cambodian prisons.

Hagar is taking its experience working with rejected, abused and exploited women and children to Cambodia's prisons. Hagar is working with women who are nearing the end of their prison term to prepare them for reintegration into the community.

  • counseling and psychosocial therapy
  • medical care
  • literacy education
  • vocational training
  • supporting peer mentoring and learning
  • transitional housing for women released from prison

All these things build resilience among women, empowering them and enabling them to move back into their communities with dignity.
