This afternoon, four Career Pathways students had their final cooking assessment at the Chegann training restaurant, and did an excellent job! They've been training for 6 months with Hagar Catering, learning about hygiene in the kitchen, how to use various equipment, different food groups and of course many new wonderful Khmer and western dishes. For their final test they were given envelopes inside which was the name of a dish they would have to prepare... anxious to do well, they each opened their envelope, one or two with beaming smiles, others looking a little nervous...
It was great to see them each hard at work in the kitchen, chopping, cooking, tasting and decorating plates... and as evaluators we had the wonderful task of tasting and evaluating a chicken curry with vegetables, steamed fish with lemon sauce, seafood salad and beef lok lak! I have to say, evaluating is no easy task and I may have been a little generous on the scoring, afterall if it tastes good it's getting 95%! Anyway, they did very well and even though they wouldn't eat with us, I knew they had enjoyed the experience from their smiles and as soon as we stood up to go, they dug in and ate the lot!
A wonderful experience to celebrate with them their new found skills!
