Heroes of Hagar

Compassion gripped my heart as I went to the shelters and projects of Hagar. I was immensely moved by the stories of the clients that Hagar is helping. But more than the clients, I was amazed by the people, the staff who are working with them, day in and day out.

Each shelter or program has its own unique story that shows a picture of love and passion that is clear in every Hagar staff. Everywhere I visited, each staff showed the same commitment and the same love for the clients. As they shared about the big vision of Hagar, they all had the same voice. There were no differences. It became clear to me that Hagar staff have the same heartbeat for their responsibilities and their clients. They hold their positions with great love and accountability.

I believe the story of the shelters does not only revolve around the clients but the people who work there as well. Some staff have spent three or more years caring for the unwanted, abused, and rejected people in society. The 2% that others say can't be helped.

These are the kinds of Hagar staff that I saw. And they truly are heroes in their own right. They have sacrificed and committed to the vision and mission of Hagar to do "whatever it takes for as long as it takes to restore a broken life." They are the powerful driving force of Hagar.

And I believe Hagar, as an organization, has truly molded its people to capture and run with the vision to help the broken and to bring them back to wholeness. Hagar has been successful in placing the right people for the right job, and is able to harness and mold those hearts to become one with the vision.

And at the end of my visit, I was left with awe and wonder at how each person at Hagar is a reflection of the vision. Every staff, manager and leader at Hagar left such an impression on me of what it means to be part of this vision. And I believe this image of Hagar will stay with me forever.
