"For everyone, everywhere, literacy is, along with education in general, a basic human right....Literacy is, finally, the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential."

Education is a basic human right. Many children in Cambodia, however, struggle to realize their right to education. While many children do attend some schooling, most only complete a few grades. Poverty and informal school fees are significant barriers to regular school attendance. Hagar's education program for children is key to fostering resilience and a life free of violence and exploitation. By providing quality education to children while supporting their families financially, Hagar is enabling each student to end the cycle of poverty that can lead to child labour, trafficking, exploitation and other human rights abuse.
